Mietsu Naval Dock

There used to be the military base of the old Saga domain here. The first western style navy was founded and ship maintenance was also conducted here. It played a pioneering role for the development of Japanese shipbuilding industry. In the underground here remains Japan’s oldest dock built by the method fusing western technology and Japanese traditional technology.
